Kenny was first created in the 1988 first original issue of The World of Hek. The original plan was to reveal that Kenny was a mutant who wished Hek into existence in a birthday wish. I never used that idea, thinking that if he were really that powerful, why wouldn't he just wish Hek away? Ultimately, I decided there is nothing special about Kenny, that he was just another unlucky wisher in a long list of Hek's.
But then, near completion of FIRST WISH, I found that I wanted something more to do with Kenny and gave the twist ending with Kenny's wife and added a little secret something to older Kenny that some sharp eyes can find. Stay tuned to the next Hek story to find out more!
ORIGINS:
In the original story, Kenny wished for his teacher to die. As an older, wiser parent and teacher, I was really against this and did not like Kenny as I reread that first issue. His new wish for the worst Mardi Gras ever is more innocent.

Hek was created to be the cousin of a character of mine named Hel. Hel was more serious; not much fun. Hek became an amalgam of Hel, Beetlejuice, and Daryl Van Horne in "The Witches of Eastwick". Why does he choose certain people's wishes? I always thought he does it on a whim; whatever sounds like a fun thing to do at the time. Lately I've been considering that maybe he actually has a darker, more meaningful purpose.

Terry was also created way back in the 80s or 90s and is my go-to reporter for all the craziness in the world. He had a major role in Christlike, and the rewrite, The World of Hek, Book Two: Savior. He knows something about Hek or the wishes, but not much was revealed in the pages of FIRST WISH. Terry Hessel will be back in future stories, and we'll learn what he knows.

Laetitia was created for my book, The World of Hek, Book One: Forever, and has become one of my favorite characters. Much of her story is next to her character sketch if you can read it. If not, you'll have to keep reading to learn more.
What we know so far, according to FIRST WISH, is that she owns a strip club called Janequin's, considers herself older than her employees, has a history with Hek and some unknown guy that Hek mentions.

I used this character once in one of the 80s issues of The World of Hek. He was an alien henchman of Hek and guarded Hek's prison cells. Will he ever return? Maybe. For now, he has been replaced by Grace.

Originally, Slicer was just a bartender and owner of The Broken Bottle Bar. As I used him in Forever: A World of Hek novel, he grew into so much more. He is the protagonist's confidant, there are Broken Bottle Bars in every city that shows up in my stories, he speaks like a pirate, and he has history with Hek and Grace!!!!
What is that history? For Grace, you'll have to wait. For his story with Hek, you can read it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5UJ5E4/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i2
In Ease the Pain: a World of Hek novel, you will get to see Slicer in his days as a sailing pirate captain.
